Julie Baker Fine Art is pleased to present A New View, a show that features the work of eight contemporary artists unified by their singular perspectives of land, nature, space and how we inhabit places.

The eight consist of Waddy Armstrong of San Antonio, Robert Flynn of Miami, Meg Harders of Los Angeles, Tanya Hastings of San Francisco, Cynthia Hurley of Sacramento, David Leonard of Austin, Michelle Stitz of Santa Cruz and Ray Charles White of New York.

The unifying element throughout this diverse group is their use of landscape as a point of entry. These artists adapt our shared environments to express their unique ones. The imagery ranges from literal to symbolic; the cultural comment to the quiet meditation. Visual perspectives take us from the undergrowth to macro scenes of grand urban sprawl.

The artists in A New View find inspiration in the unique and the mundane. Fairytales are mentioned, along with golf courses, the shapes of plants, vacant lots, the wilderness, and working man's monuments. All are responding to nature, visually describing what it means to them.

The mediums and techniques of this group are wide-ranging and innovative. Works in the show are created with materials such as resin and encaustic wax, paper cut-outs, and photographs on aluminum, as well as oil on canvas or panel.
