Jungle gyms, Comic books, Skateboards, Rubber duckies. These are the things that childhood is made of-objects that evoke memories of a time when there was time simply to play. Such cherished childhood playthings are among the images represented in Play Ground, opening at Julie Baker Fine Art on July 5. For this show, Baker has assembled the works of nearly a dozen artists from throughout the country who capture images of fun and familiar childhood objects in a variety of media, including sculpture, photography and painting. Play Ground is the latest in a series of innovative shows offered by Baker, who was president of her family’s New York arts marketing firm, Gerngross & Company, before opening with a reception on July 5 from 6 to 9pm and runs through Aug. 31. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11am to 5pm and is located at 120 North Auburn St. Suite 100, in Grass Valley.
