Julie Baker's arts expertise has been cultivated from decades of immersion in all facets of the art world. She was President of Gerngross and Company, New York, the eminent arts marketing firm still run by her family. Her art education began with informal conversations around the dining room table in her parent’s New York apartment discussing the ins and outs of arts promotion and in her family's summer home in Woodstock, New York, with it's flow of artists who were friends, neighbors and clients. She was educated at the University of California, Santa Cruz with a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies and with graduate studies in arts administration and business at New York University.

In New York City, her first gallery assignment with Aldis Browne Fine Art on Madison Ave, was followed by a two year stint with the Jan Krugier Gallery . She acquired a strong foundation in Krugier’s specialty, the Impressionists and 20th Century Modern Masters including Pierrre Bonnard and Pablo Picasso. In the early 90’s she worked in Christie's contemporary art department, where she handled work s by Willem de Kooning, Gerhard Richter, Jackson Pollock, Eva Hesse and Julian Schnabel. As her father approached retirement, he groomed her for leadership of his company which has been central to the New York art world for over fifty years. Gerngoss & Company continues to lead arts marketing and graphic design nationally. The launch of Julie Baker Fine Art combines her business acumen and arts savvy . Grounded in the power and passion of the New York art world, Julie Baker has participated in the art market nationally and internationally. In these times of changing access and technology , geography is only fixed in the imagination. Julie Baker Fine Art hopes to share and influence cultural movements that link the mainstream with quiet wonders that exist everywhere.
